Nwankali Wants Kanu’s No.25 Jersey At Arsenal
“Don’t forget, there are always ways such transactions that are done, so I assure you we’ll get there. [If we can], we will do it. Chukwueze is [signing] as well”.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Nigerian wonderkids Kelechi Nwakali and Samuel Chukwueze.
The signing of Nwakali – who chose Arsenal over Manchester City and Bayern Munich, among others – further hints at the transformation of the youth academy which had, by all accounts, a pretty miserable run last season.
Asked if he expects the deal to be done this month, Wenger said: “Yes”.
Imminent Arsenal signing Kelechi Nwakali has apparently already picked out which shirt number he will wear when he officially joins the club, according to the London Evening Standard.
The tournament Wenger referred to was last year’s FIFA Under-17 World Cup, where Nwakali featured as the standout performer and captained Nigeria to the title, their third in the past five stagings of the competition.
The move for the young Nigerian had reportedly been held up by visa and work permit issues, but the Star report that he is now on his way to England to tie up the final part of his move to north London.
Wenger has an ability to bread youngsters and give them their break in the first team.
It was also claimed that the 17-year-old has requested for the shirt number 25, which was previously worn by Nigeria and Gunners legend Nwankwo Kanu.
I guess this is a good reason but this current Arsenal player won’t be happy!
