@Ohio_Swim_Dive Named CSCAA Scholar All-American Team
The FGCU swimming and diving team was named to the list of 2015 College Swimming Coaches Association of America Fall Scholar All-America Teams on Wednesday, Jan. 27.
Almost 70% of all NCAA swimming and diving programs earned GPA’s of 3.0 or higher during the fall semester. The Scarlet Knights earned a spot on the prestigious list with a team grade point average of 3.28 during the 2015 fall semester. “It is our highest GPA since my arrival at Marshall University”.
On the men’s side, all 10 of the Big Ten teams achieved a 3.00 to comprise almost an eighth of the 83 Division I programs recognized.
“This is a great honor and accomplishment for our team, for the athletics department and our University”, said first-year swimming and diving coach Neil Harper. To be selected as a CSCAA Scholar All-American Team, programs must achieve a 3.0 GPA or higher for the semester. “This recognition is won by the entire team and so it is a reflection on each individual’s academic goals and dedication”.
With the CCSA Conference Championship coming up, FGCU looks to show off its skills in the pool as well.
“I am proud of the women on the team that challenged themselves academically this past semester”, Martin said.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America is the oldest professional organization of college coaches in America.
