Raccoon that attacked New Jersey boy was rabid
According to CBS Local News, Walls was driving through Elmwood Park in New Jersey when he witnessed the raccoon attack.
Gavali was taken to the hospital and his mother tells WCBS he is doing well.
A 6-year-old boy walking to school with his mother in New Jersey has been attacked by a raccoon which mauled the child and left deep wounds in his face, according to police and eyewitnesses. The animal sank its claws into his face. Thankfully, a nearby Good Samaritan jumped into action and saved the child from the vicious attack.
Without a moment’s hesitation, he said he got out of his auto and grabbed a fiberglass painter’s pole and began beating it against the animal. “And I just knew that I had to kill the raccoon”, he said.
“I’m really, really thankful”, she said.
After thanking her neighbor for saving her son’s life, Monali Gavali rushed Aryan to Hackensack Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.
When asked about how Danny Walls rescued her child, the mother made a point to show her gratitude once again. Walls then beat the animal…
“He came like an angel to help us”, the boy’s mother, Monali, said.
He added: “I guess I broke [the raccoon’s] rib because he yelled and I continued to hit him ’til he let go”.
The raccoon is now being tests for rabies. Nocturnal animals should not be active in the daylight, and people should beware if a raccoon is aggressive, disoriented and is foaming at the mouth. The results are due on friday, NBC New York reported.
