Because of the same wet conditions which caused a spate of attacks in the women’s race, the decision was taken to take the finishing times at the first crossing of the Champs Elysees.
Whatever his decision, Froome v Quintana is a rivalry that is still only just getting started. The British rider must still ride the 10 laps to complete the full Tour distance.
Quintana then teamed up with victor Anacona, who fell back from the initial break to support his leader.

Kenyan-born Froome, who has had to fend off unsupported allegations of doping, having urine thrown over by a spectator and being spat at by another, admitted that he had been “on the limit” on the final ascent of a grueling Tour.
