She and her staff have spent months sending emails, posting fliers and urging drivers in several languages to show up at Showalter Middle School in Tukwila on Saturday to make sure they’re insured.
“There needs to be a lot more education on the tax penalty”, she said. “How do we build on this for next year?”

Federal officials caution consumers that failing to buy insurance will prompt a heftier penalty this year, rising to $695 for individual which is more than double from 2015.

According to a Wednesday release from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, to date 575,374 North Carolina residents got covered or re-enrolled in their plan from previous year.
