The story follows the traditional plot in Austen’s novel but takes a modern and gory twist after a mysterious plague has taken over the country rapidly turning into a zombie apocalypse. However, when the malevolent undead are thrown into the mix, that wife better come with her own otherworldly slaying abilities. The cast is headed by Lily James, Sam Riley, Jack Huston, Bella Heathcote, Douglas Booth, Matt Smith, Charles Dance and Lena Headey, with makeup FX supervised by two-time Oscar victor Mark Coulier.

James said that while the romantic relationships between the characters remain true to the original text, the addition of zombies allows for some interesting new dynamics.

“So it really just makes it a very sort of exciting romp and quite scary and amusing”, she added.

Ex-Neighbours actress Bella, 28, and Downton Abbey star Lily, 26, are Jane and Elizabeth Bennet in this comedy with a bloody splash of romance. Burr Steers’ flick opens on February 5. It was the Bennett sisters that do all the bulk of the fighting.
