Trump Stumps in NW Iowa
Donald Trump said Saturday that his supporters are so loyal that he would not lose backers even if he were to shoot someone in the middle of downtown Manhattan.
He pointed his finger at the crowd like he was shooting a handgun and said: “I could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot people and I wouldn’t lose voters”.
Donald Trump trumpeted the endorsement of Sarah Palin on Tuesday, but Ted Cruz countered Saturday with his own endorsement from a prominent conservative personality: radio host Glenn Beck.
Trump has previously boasted about the devotion of his fans, but the new comment is the most extreme example of such a remark. Unlike Cruz, Trump supports a special force to round up those here illegally and send them back, but he had said that the “good ones” will be welcomed back to the USA through legal channels.
Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush are all seeking to beat expectations in Iowa, then be a top finisher in New Hampshire.
Trump receives much of his support from first-time Republican caucus voters.
Cruz closed the rally with a almost 40 minute speech.
Senator Chuck Grassley created a bit of buzz when he went on stage to speak at Trump’s rally in Pella. The candidate’s comments immediately made headlines, but people at the rally told CBS News they weren’t concerned about them.
A group of black Republicans endorsed Donald Trump on Friday, saying the Republican front-runner is the best candidate to “free black communities” from Democrats.
I watched the debates and I think one candidate stands out with respect to being a gentleman. Ted Cruz, now the real estate developer’s No. 1 rival for the Republican presidential nomination.
Reached by CNN immediately after the event, Trump declined to clarify the statement. But in Iowa, it was immigration that birthed the most explicit, concentrated contrast Cruz has offered on the stump since he shredded the non-aggression pact that the pair had essentially signed during Trump’s rise.
Both Cruz and Rubio saw their support fall slightly in the latest survey, by 4 points and 3 points, respectively. “It has to be someone who tells you exactly what they are going to do as president”. The Des Moines Register endorsed him Saturday as its choice in the Republican race, backing Hillary Clinton in the Democratic contest.
