Australian Open : Sania and Hingis in title clash
“May be one month before the Olympics, I will plan more about it”, Sania told NDTV, after the Indo-Swiss pair’s 7-6 (1), 6-3 win in the final against Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka.
It was a great view for the audience as the pair gave a competition and took no more than an hour to take over the German-Czech duo with a score of 6-1 as well as 6-0.
Sania and Martina, known as Santina, have now won 12 titles ever since they forged a partnership from BNP Paribas Open last spring.
Hradecka and Hlavackova pushed the opening set to the brim, and was leading at a point until the top seeded pair equaled the scores and clinched the first set.
The match was littered with breaks with the two teams struggling to hold serve throughout.
It was only a matter of time before they sealed the set in their favour in only 26 minutes.
In the second, Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis had a rather easy game and won it 6-3.
There was a chink of light when the Czech pair broke Hingis at 2-5 as she was serving for the championship, but they were then broken themselves as the accolades went to their opponents.
Six-time champion Serena Williams has taken the first set 6-0 in her Australian Open singles semifinal against Agnieszka Radwanska. It is to be noted that the Paes-Hingis couple are unseeded while Sania-Dogic are seeds of a higher order.
The pair already has two grand slam titles- Wimbledon and US Open- to its name. They also won a remarkable five breakpoint chances to none out of four opportunities for Julia and Karolina.
Sania has also won three mixed doubles Majors before.
The first set was a topsy-turvy affair with both teams failing to assert their dominance on serve.
They got an early break in the second set and the seventh-seeded Hlavac-kova and Hradecka, playing together since 2008, never looked like getting back in it.
“We get along on the court, we suit each other and we consolidate each other’s games”, Mirza, the contest’s standout player, said after the match.
