Dion thanks fans, Que. gov’t for support during ‘difficult time’
Celine Dion expressed her gratitude for her fans and their support via a statement on her website on Friday, January 29, a little less than a week after the funeral for her late husband, René Angelil. The funeral was broadcast nationally, and the singer mourned her husband’s passing alongside millions of other people.
Celine Dion was reportedly too grief-stricken to attend her brother Daniel’s funeral on Monday, just two days after she said goodbye to her husband.
“On behalf of our family, with all of our love, Celine, Rene-Charles, Nelson & Eddy, Patrick, Jean-Pierre & Anne-Marie”.
“We have felt your love for René, and your prayers and compassion have helped us during this most hard time…more than you’ll ever know”.
“I might likewise want to truly thank the Quebec Government for respecting René with National Funerals and also the numerous people and associations who met up to hold such an excellent tribute in his name”, the message included. Your testimonials and your support helped us, more than you can imagine to take this step and to say our goodbyes.
Her brother Daniel was 59 when he died after years of suffering from cancer.
But Daniel did not die alone, as all of his 13 brothers and sisters were gathered at his bedside in his final days. By her side were her three sons, the twins and the oldest who is 15-years-old. The entire family rushed to the hospital when they heard of his condition, and they remained there until his death. She is scheduled to resume her residency there Tuesday, Feb. 23.
