OR occupation organizer Ammon Bundy, brother denied bail
OPB has obtained two videos of Lisa Bundy and Ammon Bundy speaking to the remaining militants inside the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
BURNS, Ore. (AP) Four people occupying an OR wildlife refuge held their position Saturday and posted live videos that reveal their hyper-vigilance against federal officials who they fear may try to move them out to end the month-long standoff.
Bundy was arrested Tuesday in a confrontation with law enforcement that left one of the occupiers dead. The FBI says four people remain there as the protest hits its fourth week.
Police stopped their two-vehicle convoy about 20 miles north of Burns, where they arrested Bundy and two others.
“Calling on any and all Americans to come to Burns, Oregon, to come to the aid of the American people standing against these violent, malicious and deceitful tactics”, the unsigned appeal posted on the network website read, referring to the arrests of Bundy and his cohorts and the fatal shooting of Finicum. US Magistrate Judge Stacie Beckerman said that they posed a danger to public safety and were considered a flight risk, as she was concerned they would not follow orders to return to OR for criminal proceedings.
In another video on Thursday morning, Fry said that one of the militants was wanted on a warrant, so only three of them were free to go.
A spokesman for the militia group, Robert “LaVoy” Finicum, 56, was shot and killed during the arrest of the Bundy brothers and others Tuesday.
A representative from the Joint Information Command Center in Harney County said authorities had no comment on the claim that Finicum had his hands up.
“Multiple agencies put a lot of work into this to put the best tactical plan that they could to arrest them peacefully”, said Ward. Passing the courthouse, protesters yelled “murderer” and “FBI go home”.
He called Finicum’s death “a shame” and said he doesn’t agree with the federal authorities’ presence in the refuge.
This came as protest leader Ammon Bundy and his brother, Ryan Bundy, were ordered held without bail until their trial on felony charges of conspiracy to impede officers of the United States from discharging their official duties through the use of force, intimidation or threats. He said that happened about 10 minutes after the shooting. A man in a cowboy hat jumps out of the driver’s seat with his arms outstretched at first and walks through the snow, appearing to reach into his coat as two officers close in on him – one from the roadside and one from the woods.
“To those remaining at the refuge, I love you”. A handful of others involved have also been taken into custody, and the Wednesday arrest of Jason Patrick – who was briefly the occupation’s de facto leader after Bundy’s arrest – also motivated the Pacific Patriots Network call to action.
In the aerial video, Finicum is pulled over in his truck but then takes off in the vehicle and plows into a snowbank because of a roadblock. “He appears to have been shot in the back, with his hands in the air”, the Arizona rancher’s family said in a statement through their attorney. The FBI said the man had a loaded 9 mm pistol in his pocket.
Reuters reported special agent Greg Bretzing from the FBI’s Portland office told local media the footage depicts Finicum reaching for a loaded 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Bundy’s “militia” group seized the headquarters buildings of the 187,000-acre refuge on 2 January, to demand that the public lands be released to local control.
