Sage Northcutt upset in UFC boilover
Instead, it was Barberena flipping, well, somersaulting, on the canvas after submitting Northcutt via arm triangle choke at 3:06 of the second round of their welterweight bout at the Prudential Center.
As the biggest underdog on the card, Bryan Barberna took out the popular 19-year-old Sage Northcutt. Barberena jumped on him and nailed him with several elbows to the head. Walking into the Octagon tonight, Sage was 7-0, looking at his third fight in the UFC, and was making $40,000 to show and $40,000 to win.
Sage Northcutt spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Bryan Barberena at UFC on FOX 18.
“It feels great to beat a guy with that hype, but I have my own hype behind me”, Barberena explained after the victory. Northcutt drops Barberena! He recovers nicely and immediately clinches the young star, Northcutt slams him on the ground though, and takes his back. Barberena showing to be a more hard challenge than many thought, both are exchanging as the bell sounds. Barberena remaining calm, peeling off Northcutt, Sage gives it up and circles him into the cage.
Northcutt won’t be surprised to see there was little sympathy on social media…
While it will come as a learning curve for Northcutt in terms of his grappling prowess, some fighters weren’t so kind to Northcutt. And you also know that when a humble kid like Northcutt says he’s feeling “super-human”, no fight fan can afford to miss his next performance. “But if I’m going to fight at welterweight after this, I know I’ll get to put on more muscle than I ever have before”.
