Water crisis spurs calls to change Michigan open-records law

Semi-trucks are already on their way to Flint, and one of the men behind the wheel is the man behind it all.

A semitrailer filled with water will make its way from Milwaukee to Flint, Michigan this weekend to help that city deal with lead-contaminated drinking water.

“We never imagined this in our wildest dreams but it just goes to show what people can do when we put our hands and our heads together”, said Alderman Leslie Hairston. The mayor’s chief of staff, Rick Hayman, told WWJ Newsradio 950 that about 65 Burton residents use water from Flint. Another state spokesman had said earlier it was provided continuously in the building.

There’s no guarantee Congress will OK this money. Sen. “And the governor of that state acted as though he didn’t really care”, Clinton said.

Kasich says, “we’re on top of it and things are fine”. “We understand that this is not a long-term solution, but they need water now”.

To save $5 million, in 2014 the city of Flint began getting their water from the Flint River instead of from the city of Detroits’ water system. The water was tested by officials before it got to a filter, and Lurie stressed that the results do not mean officials think there’s a problem with the filters. On Friday, Snyder said that both the federal EPA and state Department of Environmental Quality “missed it”. Snyder and the Republicans who control the state Legislature have said it’s too early to talk about wholesale replacement of the pipes.

At the federal level, legislation to address Flint’s water crisis was also likely as the U.S. Senate takes up a bipartisan bill on energy policy.
