Urlacher not a fan of Cam Newton
“I’m an African-American quarterback that may scare a lot of people because they haven’t seen nothing that they can compare me to”, Newton said. Some people absolutely love him for all of that. “But when I said it then it was like, ‘Oh he is immature, ‘ or, ‘Oh he’s young and this that and the third.’ I felt a certain type of way then and I feel a certain type of way now – nothing has pretty much changed”. It seems like they helped me to get to this point. “You should be able to come out and have fun”. He doesn’t want to be known as an African-American quarterback.
“He has always strived to have that separation”, Rivera said.
The Packers said associate head coach Winston Moss will handle head-coaching responsibilities at the Pro Bowl in Honolulu this week, including Sunday’s game. That’s great, but the truth of the matter is I just want to be tagged as a head coach. The NCAA determined Cam Newton and Auburn were innocent of wrongdoing in the case.
That’s what they should be concerned about more than anything else….
Newton was asked Wednesday during a news conference in Charlotte why he thinks people remain critical of him despite the MVP-like season he has had.
Newton, a leading candidate for the Most Valuable Player award, may add a memorabilia deal and “one or two” more endorsements soon, Fleming said, adding that some existing sponsors are negotiating extensions of their contracts.
“Why is it that people have a hard time processing the Panthers and Cam Newton?”. I think we all are guilty of it at times.
Newton said he’s stayed true to his character during the season and thinks there may be a racial element to any criticism. “Because if I answer it truthfully, it’s going to be, ‘Aw, he’s this and that'”.
At 26, Newton long ago realized he will never please everyone.
“Automatically people started calling him a thug”, Smith said.
“Cam’s impact on and off the field makes him the face of the National Football League at the most premium position, and he deserves to be paid like it”, Scott Becher, managing director of Z Sports & Entertainment, told Bloomberg. And some of what he said had very little to do with football.
Although some people won’t admit it, the reason why they are uncomfortable with Newton – his dancing, confidence and skill set – is because he is black.
