Enforcer John Scott scores 1st All-Star goal for Pacific
He represented the league well in its annual showcase event.
Living up to its moniker, Nashville filled the weekend with music from start to finish.
The former Blackhawks forward who was voted to the All-Star Game by the fans as an Arizona Coyote, pulled by the National Hockey League after a trade to the Canadiens and then reinstated again, was the star of the show during the inaugural 3-on-3 division format of the midseason classic.
He walked off the ice with his young kids in his arms after the game. “And, got even more fans”.
The Atlantic won 4-3, with P.K. Subban scoring the game-winning goal with 4:38 remaining in the final period. The Kings, who have recently won Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014 and boast two All-Star players this year, hosted the midseason affair in 1981 and in 2002.
“I think it’s the best possible outcome”, Scott said on NBC Sports after the game, after being hoisted on the shoulders of Western Conference teammates.
“Oh, he scored against me, too, so I was happy for him”, said Predators goalie Pekka Rinne, a three-time Vezina Trophy finalist.
He also knocked down star Patrick Kane, before the pair feigned a fight.
It wasn’t long into Sunday’s NHL All-Star Game before an underrated element missing from past iterations – backchecking, courtesy Patrice Bergeron – made an appearance and already the verdict was in: This is better. “It was a fun little moment”. The 2016 All-Star Game will be played Sunday. Instead, the Atlantic pulled the goalie with a minute to go, and they failed to score.
Scott also described his first All-Star game experience. Erik Karlsson, Jaromir Jagr and Aaron Ekblad added the other goals for the victor squad.
The teams were scoreless after the first 10 minutes of the final as Quick and Roberto Luongo (Atlantic) took turns trading spectacular saves.
Pretty well. Especially for Dylan Larkin. Scott’s helmet from the All-Star Game is on its way to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.
Pavelski scored a power play goal 5:26 into the first half for a 2-1 Pacific lead.
“We weren’t sure if he was even on the plane on Thursday, so that was a nice surprise right off the bat”, Luongo said.
HELP NOT WANTED: The NHL hailed John Collins for helping the league with innovative ideas and aiding in strategic partnerships when he worked for the league from 2006 until last November, serving as its chief operating officer for his last several years. “His direct reports are reporting to me”.
Scott chronicled the whole ordeal in a post on the Players’ Tribune. The NHL ruled he could come to Nashville if he wished, and the rest now is history.
There are certain moments that still make all-star games interesting, like getting the lineup sheet and seeing Rangers captain Ryan McDonagh, Islanders captain John Tavares, and Flyers captain Claude Giroux all in the starting lineup for the same team. He captained the Pacific to a 1-0 win over the Atlantic in the championship. Unlikely All-Star candidate John Scott was then thrown into the game when social media made #VoteJohnScott go viral.
