Chelsea face Man City in FA Cup glamour tie

Chelsea will host Manchester City in the FA Cup fifth round after breezing past Championship side MK Dons on Sunday.

It was to MK Dons’ credit that they responded positively and drew level six minutes later when Darren Potter’s shot took a deflection off Nemanja Matic and looped over the leaping Thibaut Courtois.

Barclays Premier League champions Chelsea have been drawn at home to title challengers Manchester City in the fifth round of the FA Cup, where Sky Bet League 1 strugglers Shrewsbury have been handed a tie against Manchester United at New Meadow.

Guus Hiddink, Chelsea’s interim manager, said of his team’s tie: “It’s already a final”.

Fourth-tier Oxford United could not repeat their third-round win over Swansea City, losing 3-0 at home to Blackburn Rovers, but third-division Shrewsbury Town stunned Championship side Sheffield Wednesday 3-2.

City beat them 2-1 in a semi-final at Wembley in 2013 to set up the now infamous 1-0 final defeat to Wigan Athletic a month later.

West Ham, who face a replay against Liverpool before they can prepare for the fifth round, will be confident of reaching round six if they are successful, having been drawn away to Blackburn whilst Watford host Championship side Leeds United.

All of the matches will be played from the 19th to the 22nd of February.

This will be the first time when Manchester United will face Shrewsbury in a competitive fixture.
