Storm To Hit New Mexico With Snow, Wind, Low Temperatures

Temperatures on Monday will hold in the 30s, with initially a mix of rain and snow in the afternoon before changing over to all snow sometime Monday evening. Temperatures will be cold enough for snow across much of this area, but rain or a mixture of rain and snow is anticipated over the lowest elevations.
Forecasters say northern and central New Mexican can expect a strong dose of winter weather over the weekend. Snow will fall from Omaha through Des Moines into Waterloo.
“You’ll probably only see from 1 to 3 inches in town through Sunday, because that storm is hitting the northern San Juans, Silverton and Red Mountain Pass”, said meteorologist Jeff Colton from the Grand Junction office of the Weather Service. The snow could be heavy at times, especially from Wausau onto the south and east Tuesday afternoon and night.
A winter storm watch means there is a potential for significant snow, sleet, or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Indications are that the heaviest snow will hammer parts of the central Plains into the Upper Midwest Tuesday.
High winds can make even a little snow very risky to travelers.
The weather service issued a blizzard watch Sunday for Jasper County and much of the state through 6 a.m. Wednesday. This is not a storm to be taken lightly, as it will have severe repercussions on travel across the region.
Tuesday: Snow likely, mainly before 1pm.
