Driver pulls over Miami-Dade cop for allegedly speeding
Police officers are usually the ones pulling over speeding drivers but the tables turned in Miami after a woman stopped an officer for speeding, recording it all on video.
The chase, the pull-over and the confrontation were recorded on motorist Claudia Castillo’s cell phone, and then posted on YouTube in three videos Friday. “Be safe.” the officer said before getting back into his unit and driving off.
“Um, I don’t know how fast I was going”, the officer said.
“Really?” the officer responded.
Castillo then explained that she tried to catch up to the officer, even hitting 80 miles per hour herself, but she was still left “eating your dust”.
The officer, who offered to give his name and badge number, though Castillo refused to take it, wasn’t sure of his speed and told her he was headed to work. “I don’t believe I was speeding, but, like I said, you’re entitled to your opinion”.
The officer would go on to apologize for allegedly speeding. I just saw you now when you pulled over next to me, which is why I pulled over here.
The Photography is Not a Crime website appeared to be the first outlet to publicize the video Saturday.
He added that he pulled over because he thought she had an emergency of her own. After, the woman replied that everything was fine, but it was “your speeding” that caught her attention.
The officer said he couldn’t agree more.
“You passed me like I was standing still”, said Castillo. I’ll be sure to slow down. “I just think that we should all set an example”.
Police Director Juan Perez issued the following statement regarding the matter: “The Miami-Dade Police Department will have the officer’s immediate command staff investigate the matter, once the officer and citizen are identified”.
