Saido Berahino: Newcastle make £21m offer for West Brom striker
The England global handed a transfer request to the club last summer after interest from Tottenham.
Last season he scored an impressive 20 goals in 45 games despite only scoring twice from March until the end of the season.
Premier League strugglers Newcastle United appear intent on assuming the status of the highest spenders in the January transfer window after bidding £21m for West Brom’s wantaway striker Saido Berahino yesterday.
The striker did manage to score two goals in yesterday’s 2-2 FA Cup fourth found tie with Peterborough.
“He is saying: “Whatever it costs, we will try and get him”.
West Bromwich Albion are prepared to frustrate Saido Berahino’s suitors, with the Midlands club confident of once more holding on to their prize asset.
“I don’t want to give any discredit to Peterborough, they were brilliant and worked hard and kept going, but I didn’t really have my heart in my mouth at all”.
Richardson, however, understands they are at least willing to pay upwards of £20m to secure his services because they see Berahino as a man who can push them up the Premier League table.
Over the last month the Geordies have already signed Jonjo Shelvey, Andros Townsend and Henri Saivet.
But the Berahino deal is blowing them away.
He is a footballer first and foremost and I think sometimes people forget that he needs to play and he hasn’t played.
But West Brom say their stance is unchanged – that Berahino is not for sale.
“I’ve tried to bring the right quality in and if the right player becomes available I’ve always felt I’ve had the backing of the club to do something”.
Tony Pulis has confirmed that West Brom are interested in signing QPR midfielder Sandro after revealing Callum McManaman faces a lengthy spell out through injury.
