Thomas Davis: “I fully expect to play” after broken arm
Davis revealed to Voth that the broken arm he suffered during the NFC Championship Game against the Arizona Cardinals required “11 or 12” screws to fix, but that despite the ridiculous amount of fresh hardware in his body, he “fully expects to play” in Super Bowl 50.
Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis must be aiming for a new standard in toughness.
The 11-year veteran had surgery Monday to have a plate inserted into his right forearm.
But even seeing him leave the field, unable to move that arm, wasn’t much cause for concern among his teammates.
“I was devastated for him at the time”, Carolina defensive tackle Dwan Edwards. “He’s our leader, both from a talking standpoint, motivation-wise, and on the field with everything he’s been through, he’s an inspiration to everybody”.
“They were kind of picking on me and grabbing my arm and saying, you can’t retaliate now, you can’t do anything”, Davis said, smiling.
Resilience can be seen throughout the team; receivers stepping up when Kelvin Benjamin tore his ACL in the preseason, a head coach that was expected to be fired one season and led them to a Super Bowl the next, even a young quarterback who is experiencing the extremes of growing into a superstar.
Given what Davis has been through, teammates aren’t surprised that he intends to face the Denver Broncos next Sunday in Santa Clara, California.
You can also follow Brian and Jarred on Twitter, and look for regular Panthers updates on WXII12.com. “It’s not going to be something I’ll think about one bit”. He’s going to be there.
Davis won last year’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award for his community work.
Thomas Davis is coming off a fantastic 2015 season for the Carolina Panthers. “Our goal is to make it to the Super Bowl, and not only make it, but win it. It’s a great feeling to still be in the locker room when other teams are on vacation”.
