1 dead, 7 hurt in shooting, stabbing at Denver expo
It started around 12:48 p.m. with a disturbance at the Colorado Motorcycle Expo at the National Western Complex at the Denver Coliseum, according to Denver Police.
The incident occurred just before 1 p.m.at the Colorado Motorcycle Expo, an event that has been held in Denver with no problems for 30 years.
One person was fatally shot and seven others hurt.
A source told KUSA-TV the incident involved two motorcycle clubs.
Sunday’s motorcycle show at the Denver Coliseum is canceled, White said.
“We strongly suspect there was more than one shooter”, White said.
Another person was stabbed, and three more suffered “lesser injuries” from what was “more than likely” a fistfight, he said. He said the person who died and three of the wounded were hit by gunfire.
They are still determining if it will be considered motorcycle club or motorcycle gang related.
Police said Saturday they had made no arrests but were interviewing several witnesses. He would not say whether he fired the fatal shot. He didn’t know what caused the shooting but said that minutes later the scene returned to normal despite puddles of blood on the floor.
There is a heavy police presence near the National Western Complex where the expo is taking place.
Denver Health earlier had tweeted that nine people had been taken to area hospitals.
Police said the show would go on as scheduled. The dead man as well as the injured were taken to the Denver Medical Health Center. Heavily-armed Denver Police officers were seen outside the entrances.
“It all happened on the stairwells and there was a bunch of motorcycle guys… beating up another on the top of the stairs”, said another.
“Rest assured that all of the offending parties have been ejected and all is well”, the post said.
