Ex-heavyweight champ Bruno wants boxing comeback at age 54
The former heavyweight champion revealed the news on This Morning to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.
We said Frank Bruno was looking in great shape, and it turns out there’s a good reason.
Bruno was recently pictured training in the ring with Ricky Hatton, another former world champion.
I feel like superman, I’m going to the gym all the time, working hard – that’s why I’ve got to come into boxing…to get this out of my system, because I don’t want to end up in Broadmoor hospital.
“I haven’t got no choice”, Bruno shot back, looking a little angry.
The boxing legend also revealed his medication for his bipolar disorder was causing him problems: “They made me suicidal”.
The fans’ favourite felt boxing again would help him get his life back on track and he told ITV’s This Morning he has been busy in the gym. “I haven’t got no choice”.
“I can’t sit down and let these so-called promoters say [current British heavyweight champion] Anthony Joshua can knock me out in two rounds when I’m not even dead”. “They mess up my head”.
Bruno won the WBC heavyweight belt in 1995, beating Oliver McCall, and hasn’t fought since losing to Mike Tyson the following year.
“My agent has received notification from the British Boxing board of Control that should I apply for a license this would not be granted”, confirmed Bruno.
