Day deal off: Newcastle fail in hunt of Liverpool defender Jose Enrique

Jurgen Klopp has admitted Liverpool are unlikely to sign Alex Teixeira.

Newcastle United have been by far the busiest club on Deadline Day so far and they’ve united with the Liverpool punters by the bar to share a pint and discuss a piece of news that involves both clubs.

The Spaniard was in shock talks earlier on Tuesday about a proposed return to the North East to help Steve McClaren’s side fight against relegation.

The former Spain Under-21 worldwide has only featured in the FA Cup this season, not managing to find his way onto the pitch for a single second of Premier League action during the current campaign.

The fullback is on package believed to be around £65,000 per week and would’ve seen that figure greatly diminish if he accepted the switch.

According to widespread reports this afternoon, the Magpies are looking to finalise a free-transfer deal before the close of the winter transfer window.

When he signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2011, the full back went on the warpath against his former employers.

Liverpool certainly won’t stand in his way, with Alberto Moreno, Brad Smith and likely Jon Flanagan ahead of him in the pecking order at left-back.
