John Scott is unlikely MVP of NHL All-Star Game
Later, in the winning dressing room, Scott’s helmet was being collected by the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. “It’s insane. You can’t make that stuff up”.
Fans made him the write-in MVP selection. I thought I’d be in the background and enjoy it behind the scenes.
“You hate to lose, but if I ever wanted to lose, ever, I’m glad I lost today”, Jagr said. To be able to come to the game first of all and then meet all the guys, and have them kind of accept me, and then have the warm embrace by the fans.
After a big win, he was even given the title of MVP.
Enforcer John Scott scored twice during the NHL’s new All-Star Game 3-on-3 tournament and was named MVP by fans after captaining the Pacific Division to a 1-0 win in the championship Sunday night.
John Scott gave everyone something to cheer for, scoring twice – including on his first shift, 47 seconds into the game – and leading the Pacific division to a 9-6 victory over the Central.
When it was announced that Scott was the victor of the All-Star game MVP Trophy, he clearly could not believe it, and was excited to show his two young children the new vehicle he would be taking home.
Last week, Scott claimed in an article for The Players Tribune that a representative of the National Hockey League tried to talk him out of playing, asking, “Do you think this is something your kids would be proud of?” “He said, ‘That was quite the story”.
“I’d like to think I opened a few doors”, he said. This little mid-market of a town tuned in to watch some really fun hockey Sunday night. “Johnny played good. Johnny had a good game out there”, said Kane, who admitted he was a bit shocked that Scott leaned into him in the neutral zone.
“I don”t know if he was expecting me to drop them with him,” Kane added. They aren’t famous for too much these days.
Scott, 33, said he wasn’t initially trying to hit his former teammate from the Chicago Blackhawks, but when collision seemed unavoidable, he made a decision to follow through on the 177-pound Kane. That Honda Pilot parked on the ice belonged to the Scott family. Thank you, John Scott, for not only making the All Star weekend interesting, but for proving that sometimes the underdog truly is the most important player in the tournament.
And if people expected him to be embarrassed in the 3-on-3 sessions, they were wrong. The way he handled this whole situation, the way he played, I’m so happy for him.
“We had a good weekend, everybody had fun and we ended up winning, so it turned out great”.
The result was an exciting event that featured some backchecking, attempted blocked shots, big saves from goaltenders and enough time and space to let the world’s top players showcase their skating, passing and scoring skills. Kings defenseman Drew Doughty scored an empty-net goal in the game, which set up the Pacific-Atlantic matchup in the finale. Scott brought a pride to the weekend that I haven’t seen in many years.
