Another Deadline Day, another prickly tweet from Saido Berahino
Newcastle United have failed to land West Brom striker Saido Berahino on deadline day.
West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace is set to decide where Saido Berahino’s immediate future lies amid reports that Newcastle are readying a £20million-plus bid for the striker.
Hughes certainly wasn’t deterred by the various controversies threatening to divide Berahino from his Albion team-mates – not least when threatening to go on strike after his move to Tottenham broke down five months ago.
In this window, however, the Magpies’ hierarchy have loosened the purse strings – outspending nearly every other club with the signings of Jonjo Shelvey, Henri Saivet, and Andros Townsend.
However, at the other end of the pitch, Pulis was not pleased with his side’s defending as Albion face an FA Cup replay against League One promotion hopefuls Peterborough following Saturday’s 2-2 draw at The Hawthorns.
“Right now, you hear the name Saido Berahino and think “troublemaker”, Shearer writes in The Sun.
West Brom are just seven points ahead of Newcastle, who are in the relegation zone, in the Premier League and may not want to sell to a close rival.
Despite being linked with a number of new players it looked likely to be a quiet final few hours of deadline day for Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal.
“So they are desperate for somebody like Berahino and for once, to be fair to Mike Ashley, he is saying whatever it costs, we will try to get him”.
‘People are going to have to be a little bit careful with the expectations.
“His goals are so, so important for us and he’s shown that again today”.
“I suppose we’ll all be here until quite late as tends to happen but outside of that we’re preparing to tomorrow’s game. But in the game he gets two opportunities and puts them in the back of the net and that’s why everybody wants him”.
