Carmelo Anthony leaves his mark on Stephen Curry with unusual guarding technique
Carmelo Anthony got a little creative in trying to defend reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry during the Golden State Warriors’ 116-95 drubbing of the New York Knicks on Monday, February 1 (Sunday, January 31 in the US).
It’s been assumed that the key to stopping Steph Curry from being all, you know, Steph Curry is to hand check him. Only problem for Melo is that stiff arms aren’t exactly legal, so Melo was called for a foul after his hand made contact with Steph’s head.
He inadvertantly grabbed Curry’s forehead and his finger nail left a nasty scratch.
Anthony’s move may not have been successful, but it did leave a mark.
The Garden was abuzz with the defending champs in town, and even after going down to the wire in Philadelphia on Saturday night, Golden State put on a show. Green said as he placed one of his hands on his forehead. “I didn’t want him to raise up”. Curry, who had only 13 points on 5-for-17 shooting, admitted that Anthony’s hands-on approach cut him.
When asked about it after the game, Curry just chuckled and jokedly said the wound was the result of “some, uh, great defense”.
