Six People in Bexar County Tested for Zika Virus

According to World Health Organization officials, cases of the Zika virus have been reported in 20 countries. The cases have been diagnosed in 11 states and in Washington, D.C. The patient is a four-year-old boy who recently returned to Jamaica from a visit to Texas. After the recent scare, virologists at National Institute of Virology in Pune screened the dengue virus samples for Zika.

The W.H.O. announced it will hold an emergency meeting to try to figure out how to stop the transmission of the Zika virus which is “spreading explosively across the Americas”.

Zika has hit Brazil just as it prepares to host the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro on August 5-21, an event that draws hundreds of thousands of athletes, team officials and spectators.

As part of these measures, the ministry says attempts are being made to determine whether there are other cases of the virus in any of those communities while heightening its vector control activities.
