Following Shooting Attack, IDF Partially Closes Ramallah
At the same time, Israeli Occupation Forces have killed more than 186 Palestinians since then, at least 34 of them children.
The military says the Palestinian was attempting to cross the West Bank separation barrier when forces approached him. The Israeli YNet news portal, citing an unnamed Palestinian source, said the incident is considered to be unusual by Palestinian officials because the attacker was a security officer, held a job with the attorney general and left behind a wife and four children.
Ban wrote that he would always stand up for Israel’s right to exist, but added that “the time has come for Israelis, Palestinians and the global community to read the writing on the wall: The status quo is untenable”.
Meanwhile, the United States, European Union have also issued criticisms of the Israeli regime in recent days, saying Netanyahu had gone a step too far in accusing UN Secretary of State Ban Ki-moon of giving a “tailwind to terrorism”.
The Palestinian Authority is headquartered in Ramallah, which is around 12 miles (20 kilometers) from Yerushalayim.
A campaign of stabbings, shootings and car-rammings by Palestinians has killed 26 Israelis and a USA citizen since the start of October.
Later in the day, it appeared that enforcement of the measure varied between locations.
A number of other roads connecting Ramallah with the northern West Bank were also closed or restricted, although checkpoints near Jerusalem were open. Neither the [Palestinian] president is harmed or anyone else.
Shortly after yesterday’s shooting, troops opened fire at a Palestinian auto driving at high speed towards soldiers at another West Bank checkpoint.
It was the latest assault near a Jewish settlement in the Palestinian territory that has been under Israeli military occupation since 1967.
The Palestinian health ministry confirmed that 18-year-old Ahmad Hasan Tobeh was killed on Monday by the Salit settlement, south of Tulkarem. He was shot dead during the attack.
The head of a Palestinian intelligence body said recently that the PA has prevented some 200 attacks against Israelis in recent months.
Israel blames incitement by Palestinian leaders and media as a main cause of the violence.
