Obama stirs up Democrats faithfuls
Vice President Joe Biden said he was confident the Democrats will win the Senate and also the House, NBC News reported.
“It’s election season, the press has been focused on debates and divisions they can drum up within the primary and within our party”, Obama said to House Democrats at their policy retreat in Baltimore.
Obama promised Democrats that the party “will win in November” and chided Republicans for “phony tough talk and bluster” on defeating Islamic militants.
President Obama established a White House Cancer Moonshot Task Force Thursday, giving a formal structure to Vice President Biden’s mission to “end cancer as we know it”.
President Obama on Thursday urged House Democrats to embrace the accomplishments of his administration, arguing the country is better off than when he took office seven years ago and voters will respond to that message when they head to the polls later this year. “We have now seen the longest streak of private-sector job creation in our history, more than 14 million new jobs … more than 18 million Americans newly covered by health insurance”, Obama said. Bernie Sanders, saying his liberal campaign “has expanded the universe of young people especially interested in the political process”.
As the retreat wrapped up, Obama announced that his legislative affairs director for the last two years, Katie Fallon, would leave her post, as the White House eyes a less ambitious legislative agenda in the final year. “We never talk about what they’re really for”. “That’s not keeping America safe”.
Obama has instructed the task force to engage in an “open, reciprocal dialogue with the American people”, but it’s unclear whether the task force’s meetings will be open to the public.
House Democrats, who lost their majority in 2010 after a midterm election that was largely a referendum on Obamacare, haven’t always enjoyed a close relationship with the President.
“Sometimes I get a little frustrated that we don’t run back the tapes to what Republicans said back then” when predicting his policies wouldn’t work Obama said.
