Hillary Brings In Bill To Make Final Pitch in Iowa
Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio took shots at each other as their feud grew more bitter. Cruz chugged across the state on a mission to visit all 99 counties before Monday’s caucuses.
Rubio’s road to the nomination looks arduous, with recent polls showing him about 20 points behind Trump, according to a Real Clear Politics analysis. One note, if these numbers are accurate, it’s puzzling that the Cruz campaign has reportedly redirected its anti-Trump spending against Rubio.
Ted Cruz enjoy support on the University of Iowa campus, Janelle Smithson of the College Republicans said neither frontrunner has generated the enthusiasm to match their standing in state and national polls. “Kitchen sink attacks”, he said. You would maybe offer them a delegate.
Bill Clinton played down his role in bringing out the crowds, however. There was more drama inside, as a small group of protesters interrupted him and Mr Trump joined the crowd in chanting “USA” to drown out the discord.
He asked security to “get them out” but “don’t hurt them”. Campaigns worked aggressively to set those expectations in their favor (meaning, lower them) for Iowa, New Hampshire and beyond.
“There’s no question we are feeling some wind at our back”, Harris told The Associated Press. “Enough of the games”, he said, adding that Clinton was prepared to show up for the debate on Thursday and the three additional ones later this spring. “I feel like he has the potential to not only further the Republican Party, but also reach across the aisle and solidify a stronger relationship with Democrats”.
Appearing with evangelist Jerry Falwell Jr.at a Davenport, Iowa, town hall event, Trump said he was happier that he was connecting with evangelicals than he was leading the new poll. Bernie Sanders and two have said they would support O’Malley.
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton says the hubbub over whether she had secret emails on her server is “very much like Benghazi”, a politically motivated scandal that’s likely not as serious as Republicans suggest.
But is the Sanders surge sufficiently intense to motivate eligible voters to leave their homes Monday evening in frigid temperatures, drive to caucus sites, deliver stump speeches, and hold firm to their candidate?
Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders said Sunday that rival Hillary Clinton’s email controversy is a “very serious issue”, even though he has refused to attack the former secretary of state on that front. But people need to come out in droves to make that statement.
The campaign is also saturating the airwaves in Iowa.
That heat was coming from Republicans.
The former secretary of state drew an implicit contrast between her push for stricter laws with Mr Sanders’ mixed record on gun control measures.
The Clinton campaign also called for a debate in Flint, Michigan, to highlight the city’s water-contamination crisis. “When you get $600,000 for a speaking engagement, I mean that’s more than I’ve made in my entire lifetime”.
“How can we continue to ignore the toll that this is taking on our children and our country?” Nearly 60 per cent of Republican caucus-goers were evangelical.
“This campaign is not about Republicans tearing each other up”, he said.
Iowa, the 30th most populated state, and tiny New Hampshire, which holds the second nominating contest on February 9, have traditionally served as early filters to winnow out the losers and elevate the top contenders for later contests.
Campaigns are not required to report January totals just yet, so the Sanders announcement was seen as an effort to create a sense of growing momentum and broad-based appeal on the eve of the key Iowa caucuses.
