State, EPA meet to discuss Flint water testing plan

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality will today present a comprehensive testing plan for Flint water to federal officials, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Flint is among many cities in MI, like Detroit, that have lost their luster since the automotive industry slowed down.

The ministers admitted the 1,000 cases of bottled water being trucked to Flint, and more than 3,000 additional cases of bottled water to be purchased there with money raised in Chicago will be a drop in the bucket compared to the MI city’s need for good, clean water.

During April 2014, Flint transitioned to sourcing water from the Flint River and planned to do so until the completion of the KWA system.

The governor has signed into law $28 million more in emergency funding, and said he didn’t know some state workers in the city had received bottled water a year ago while officials were still telling residents that tap water was safe to drink.

“Going back and connecting with the Katrina situation, we feel and I feel this situation is no different”, Jackson said.

There are some lead connectors in older parts of the system, but mandatory testing of the water supply – both at the treatment plant and at randomly selected homes from BGMU’s 19,000 customers – reveals that those small portions of the system are not an issue.

Flint, Michigan will soon receive a big delivery as residents continue to struggle with lead-tainted water. The state agency monitoring the water quality, works under the auspices of Local Union 517, again Democratic, knew of the worrisome water and did nothing about it. The Federal EPA chief, a Democrat appointed by President Obama, knew of the problem with the water and suppressed the information. Some children’s blood has tested positive for lead, a potent neurotoxin linked to learning disabilities, lower IQ and behavioral problems.

“It’s at a time when people are watching the news and I understand people’s nervousness and questioning their drinking water”, Martin said. The Republican governor said the funding will provide immediate resources in Flint, but is not the end of state assistance.

Michael Moore also discussed the water contamination crisis in Flint, Michigan on “The View”. Cases of bottle water are being delivered by the truckload from people all over the country. It found extremely high lead level levels that ranged from 153 parts per billion to more than 4,000 parts per billion at 26 sites after more than 4,000 samples of unfiltered water taken since late December were analyzed.

“When we find those we replace them”, BGMU Communications Manager Christy Twyman said.
