You can now buy a Xiaomi phone in the US
It appears the product pages for the Xiaomi and Meizu phones at US Mobile’s website have been taken down. “U.S. Mobile is not authorised to sell Xiaomi products in the U.S”.
Though Xiaomi will not be directly selling its handsets in the US, the company’s smartphones are now available for purchase in the country from US Mobile.
“There are no plans to sell smartphones through any authorized distributors in the US”, Xiaomi told China Daily in a statement.
Xiaomi is the biggest smartphone vendor in China — the world’s largest smartphone market.
The Beijing-based company launched an online store in the United States past year but it only offers a small selection of accessories such as earphones and fitness bands. The phones going on sale, according to the report, are Xiaomi Redmi 2 for $119, the Xiaomi Mi 3 for $135, the Meizu Note 2 for $149, and the Xiaomi Mi 4 for $219. The phones are also tailored to the Chinese market, with specific apps and services preloaded that don’t function here in the US. But given that none of these phones support LTE and aren’t really optimized for use in the USA at all, you might be better off waiting for something more official from Xiaomi or Meizu, provided it ever comes.
Xiaomi declined to say whether or not it would seek to block US Mobile’s Xiaomi sales, but the comments will come as a blow to the MVNO. “Now, with the launch of our marketplace, we are thrilled to offer complete rangeof exceptional smartphones for low monthly payments and give our customers access to exceptional phones otherwise not available in the U.S.”.
