Pep Guardiola Spurns United, Chelsea To Take Over For Manuel Pellegrini
There has been widespread disbelief among United fans after confirmation Guardiola would take over at City at the end of the season.
Speaking to BBC Sport Pep Guardiola’s father belives his son will “change the mindset of English football” by carrying on the football of his Barcelona and Bayern Munich teams at Manchester City.
They are already through to the final of the League Cup and are second in the league behind Leicester City.
“The contract is for three years”. He oversaw Barcelona’s most successful run of sustained success, winning 14 trophies in four years, which included three La Liga titles and two Champions League.
Guardiola sparked a scramble for his services when he announced he would be leaving Bayern in December and subsequently revealed he would like to work in England.
With Guardiola agreeing terms to join their city rivals, the Red Devils are now being linked with a possible move for former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho should Van Gaal leave in the summer.
“I think Yaya will leave the club”, he told The Sun.
“Before I finish, I want to tell you I have talked with the club and I will finish my contract on the original date”.
Pellegrini is expected to vacate the top spot for the Blues on June 30. [There was] a lot of speculation but I knew this a month ago.
They were Premier League Champions in 2012 and 2014 and won the F.A. Cup in 2011. They hope this way – with all loose ends tied up – it will play out differently to the situation at United in 2001 when the announcement of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement created some uncertainty.
Earlier, City’s current manager Manuel Pellegrini said he would be stepping down at the end of the season.
