New iPhone could have game-changing wireless charging
Apple’s new technology could allow you to charge your phone from a distance of at least three feet.
That being said, wireless charging mats have become commonplace at establishments such as Starbucks. iPhone competitors, like the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, have included the feature for quite some time now.
Six years ago, Apple filed a patent application that laid out the concept for an iMac computer that could serve as a wireless charging hub for mobile devices, according to Bloomberg. The tech giant uses a similar technique, known as induction, to wirelessly charge the Apple Watch.
The sources claim Apple is looking to make technology that allows iPhones and iPads to be charged from further away than current wireless charging mats.
We love smartphones but we hate the charging solutions they come with, period. There is no sort of confirmation made by Apple regarding the development of the new wireless charging technology. The all-in-one lightning connector will both serve as a charging port, head phone jack, and other input-required features. This kind of technology does fit the description of what is being reported and would certainly meet the definition of a “Breakthrough” in wireless charging technology.
What is worth mentioning here is the fact that Apple applied for a patent in late 2012.
Until then, the best way to wireless charge an iPhone is probably to slap the phone in a wireless charging case. Apple has reportedly been exploring ways to get around that, but has experienced issues such as loss of power over distance. The company has already started working with partners in Asia and the USA for creating this technology, and it could be seen on iPhones launched in 2017.
