Vanessa Hudgens Gave a Stellar Performance in Grease
Vanessa Hudgens managed to put on a courageous face when she performed just hours after her dad’s passing. Executive Producer Marc Platt addressed the censorship in an interview last week, saying it would be a family-friendly show but with an appropriate edge.
“It was incredibly courageous of her. She’s a professional, but she’s also a human being and a daughter”, he said.
“If you would have asked me two years ago what I thought of cancer, I would have said, ‘Man, you know it sucks”. But on Monday, People reported that the High School Musical star took to Twitter to express her gratitude to fans and friends for the overwhelming support they had given her on the night of the Grease: Live performance. Hudgen’s performance has been getting high praises from those that were able to watch the show live. And it did, with Hudgens heading out on stage and dedicating that night to her dad.
The report claims that Hudgens had a fill in ready to take her place in case anything had happened, but she refused and went on with the show as planned.
“Finger crossed Danny’s shorts get smaller with every cut away”, she tweeted. I think it was for all of them a very cathartic experience given the brutality of the circumstances. “She had to make him proud”.
“He was by [Vanessa’s] side nonstop”, the source told Us.
GREASE: LIVE reintroduced and reimagined some of the show’s most memorable moments, great music and timeless love story to an entirely new generation.
“I am devastated. Just thinking of my girl and praying for her strength today”, Ashley Tisdale penned. The dialogue and blocking of each scene felt more like a necessary segue from one musical number to the next and less like an actual progression of the storyline.
“Tonight, I do the show in his honor”, she continued. The performance was indeed dedicated to his memory.
