Who Won The Pro Bowl?
The NFL has tried to reshape, relocate and reconstitute this all-star game a number of times, but league officials can never mask the fact that football is a game of full-speed collisions and high intensity. Derek Carr and Tyrod Taylor came on to relive Manning, while Teddy Bridgewater and Jameis Winston were under center in relief for Team Irvin. Miami’s Jarvis Landry also had a touchdown catch.
The Seattle Seahawks quarterback finished 8-for-12 with 164 yards and three touchdowns.
The Pro Bowl used to be held the week after the Super Bowl (which itself was held the week after the conference championships), which allowed big game participants to participate in this last hurrah for the season.
Russell Wilson threw three first-half touchdown passes to lead Team Irvin.
In the end, Team Irvin, coached by former Cowboys great Michael Irvin, beat Team Rice, which had Taylor and his Bills teammates Eric Wood and Richie Incognito, by a final score of 49-27.
Team Rice cut the margin to a touchdown on a 10-yard scoring strike from Oakland quarterback Carr to Kelce for his second touchdown snag of the game, making the score 21-14 late in the second quarter. Traditionally the game is a matchup between top players from the NFC vs. those from the AFC.
Barnidge wasn’t targeted the rest of the game, as fellow tight end Travis Kelce led all receivers with five catches for 91 yards and two touchdowns.
Middle linebacker Bobby Wagner led the game in tackles with nine, Tyler Lockett had a 24-yard punt return and a reception on a fake punt, Richard Sherman saved a touchdown with a deflection in the end zone while also turning in one of the game’s most memorable plays (more on which in a minute). Team Irvin went for two again and this time, got it when Wilson connected with Jones.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson, right, signs autographs for his fans during the NFL Pro Bowl Football Draft show at the Wheeler Army Airfield, Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, in Wahiawa, Hawaii. Team Irvin had more of the star power where it matters, with receivers A.J. Green, Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, and Allen Robinson leading the way on offense and Sherman as well as cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie (two interceptions) leading the way on defense. Woodson announced during the season that this would be his previous year. He was escorted by his two young sons off the field to rousing cheers from the fans that remained. That is a bit extreme for some people, but the idea of something being on the line would make the Pro Bowl valuable.
