Delta apologizes for flight attendants’ ‘altercation’
A Delta Air Lines plane was grounded last month after two flight attendants onboard the Los Angeles-to-Minneapolis flight got into a fist fight at 37,000 feet.
A passenger on board reported that three cabin crew members were kicked off for “bad behaviour”.
The plane was about 200 miles south of Salt Lake City when the captain made a decision to land the Boeing 757 at Salt Lake City International Airport.
The airline issued an apology to passengers and the public through a statement.
The Aviation Herald quotes Delta’s email as telling Flight 2988 passengers “some of our team members did not display their best behavior. I am sorry we didn’t deliver on our brand promise for you today”. While it did not appear there was any danger to the aircraft, the pilot wanted to learn what happened from the flight attendants.
The company has blamed the spat on “work issues” which involved a third member of the crew being punched in the face.
The aircraft landed safely on Salt Lake City’s runway about 40 minutes after leaving.
The airline says the actions of the crew members did not reflect the professionalism expected of employees. We regret that our customers’ experience did not live up to our expectations.
The Pioneer Press wrote that Delta declined to say if the attendants were disciplined or if they still worked for the airline.
Delta said it sent letters to affected customers apologizing for “any inconvenience this situation may have caused”.
The passengers – who were delayed for about 75 minutes in Utah – were also given travel vouchers for their trouble.
