Soares wins two Grand Slam titles on same day
To the joy of Brazilian fans, Bruno Soares completed an unprecedented feat for his country, winning two titles at the same grand slam: the men’s doubles alongside Jamie Murray, brother of Andy, and mixed doubles, alongside Russian Elena Vesnina.
Prior to the mixed doubles championship match, Soares revealed that he had to appear in numerous media sessions following the men’s doubles championship, per Sky Sports.

Fellow Scots Andy and Jamie Murray are also in Australian finals this weekend, with Jamie into the final of the men’s doubles on Saturday and Andy playing Novak Djokovic in the singles on Sunday.
It’s now up to his brother, Andy, to add a second.
Gordon Reid has won his first Grand Slam singles title by beating Joachim Gerard 7-6 (9-7) 6-4 in the wheelchair final at the Australian Open.
Murray senior will climb to No 2 in the doubles world rankings today, while Andy will drop one place to No 3 in singles, replaced by Roger Federer.
‘ After the first set of that final he started returning incredibly well. “Andy, you should be in bed”, Jamie joked in his speech at the presentation ceremony. “But I got two in the same day”. His Serbian fans might think so, but the man who clinched his sixth Australian Open title on Sunday night isn’t interested at the moment.
“I think we always kind of talk to each other about it”, said Smith, who led Britain to their first Davis Cup title since 1936 in November.
Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon was one of the first to offer congratulations to Murray and Soares on Twitter. “I’m pretty happy with what we’ve achieved so far”. Nestor won the first of his eight titles at the Australian Open in 2002 and first reached his first major final here in 1995, both times with partner Mark Knowles.
Tecau won the 2012 mixed doubles title with another American, Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
They saved a match point at 4-5 and again at 5-6, but Murray and Soares closed it out on their third match point when Stepanek hit a return into the net. They would win 42 percent of the return points, which came up especially big in the super tiebreak.
Williams is after her 22nd Grand Slam singles title, which would tie her with Steffi Graf for most major titles in the Open era.
It’s been a good tournament for Scotland overall.
Soares played in the Rio 2016 test event past year and is optimistic about what the Games can provide to athletes and fans.
