Apple could release “cutting-edge” wireless-charging iPhone next year
The new charging tech would allow users to juice up devices without fiddling with wires or charging mats, and it could work over relatively long distances, sources told Bloomberg.
According to a new report by Bloomberg, Apple is developing a new wireless charging technology that could be integrated into new iOS devices as soon as 2017. We will cover more news about the Apple’s wireless charging technology development for iOS devices in coming months; hold on to your seats as it is still a long way off.
Even though the company’s major rivals such as Samsung Electronics and Sony Corporation has already released their versions of wireless technology for smartphones, but their products require positioning in a close radius with the power charger. This rumor comes from unnamed insider sources that claim the technology to charge a device wirelessly from a distance is now being worked on.
The power transfer efficiency declines as the distance between the transmitter and receiver increases. Back at the iPhone 5 launch in 2012, Apple Senior VP Phil Schiller said that wireless charging doesn’t offer any convenience because of the reliance on a charging plate.
Apple is working to solve these problems, according to Bloomberg. Long-distance wireless charging could let you juice up your phone without taking it out of your bag or pocket and continue charging it while you use it at your desk. That’s because no matter “whether the device is real or not”, he wouldn’t expect “Apple to sell significantly more iPhone 6C devices than the typical low-end model (currently the 5S)”.
Several tech companies already build wireless charging into their phones.
We love smartphones but we hate the charging solutions they come with, period.
The iPhone 7 is expected to arrive in September alongside the bigger-screened iPhone 7 Plus. As per the rumours, the wireless technology will not be dependant on a charging pad or mat.
