Mats Hummels blames poor form on being overweight
Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels claims being overweight was the reason behind his disappointing form last season.
He said: “The first half of the 2014/15 season was a disaster for me in relation to my weight”.
“I liked what he said to me and the way in which he said it”.
Speaking to ESPN, Otamendi suggested that he is open to a move away from the Mestalla this summer, after captaining the club to fourth place last time out, earning a return to the Argentina squad in the process.
“I had a talk with Tuchel during the phase where I was still considering my future”.
The 26-year-old, seen here in October 2014, thinks: “The first half of last season was probably the worst I have ever played in my life”.
“If a coach wants me to convince to stay, I really like it if he doesn’t try to sugarcoat things but finds clear words”.
The two-time Bundesliga victor in 2011 and 2012 is now excited for the coming campaign under new manager Thomas Tuchel but has spoken of his eating habits which contributed to his poor season at Dortmund, as they eventually finished seventh, having floundered at the bottom of the table for several weeks.
“I felt very sluggish and looked very sluggish”. It was catastrophic for me in terms of my weight.
“I actually do weigh less now”, he said.
“Now my weight is significantly lower and I’m in very different shape to 2014”.
“I’ve eaten well and probably run a bit more during my holidays this summer than I did in all the last years added together”.
