Stars of latest “Pride and Prejudice” parody talk zombies
“Pride and Prejudice and Zombies” is based on Seth Garahame-Smith’s popular parody of the classic Jane Austen romance novel.
“Isn’t that quite nice though, that it is the women who are the kick-arse ninjas?” As the movie name suggests, however, zombies are used to put a fresh twist on the story.
Suki’s acting career is taking off since she made her debut in Love, Rosie alongside Lily Collins. You’ve got to bring something new to the table which everyone did, I thought. Then I did boxing, some martial arts, some yoga and stuff because each of the Bennet sisters has a different fighting style. Films are in development for like 13 years, I think The Danish Girl this year was in development for 13 years so that didn’t worry me that the script had been around for so long, in fact it really drew me into the project. I think maybe subversive is the right word or the wrong word but just to reinvent characters that have been played before much like you would play Hamlet and every actor gives that their spin.
Together with the rest of the Bennet sisters – played by Ellie Bamber, Suki Waterhouse, Millie Brady and Bella Heathcote – she hunts flesh-eating zombies using ninja skills. In a recent interview, Matt has been quoted as stating, “It’s quite interesting to add zombies to any story”.
Charles Dance, 69, whose earliest global success was in playing the lead role of Guy Perron in the television miniseries The Jewel In The Crown in 1984 – before many of his co-stars was born – said it was fun working with a young cast who were “a bunch of extremely talented and mostly very handsome people”. He is a very talented man. “It is done with great affection”.
But, until now acting has been less of her forte, having been in a few films including The Divergent Series: Insurgent, and Pride And Prejudice And Zombies is definitely her biggest yet.
