Saido Berahino rules out West Bromwich Albion move?
Berahino famously took to Twitter last summer to vent his anger at West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace and claim he would never play for the club again.
Spurs are sill desperate to sign a striker today, but their deal with Moussa Dembele has collapsed and that leaves Mauricio Pochettino back at square one.
The 22-year-old striker was also linked with Tottenham and Newcastle, who reportedly tabled a £21million bid, but the Baggies reiterated their “not for sale” stance throughout the window.
Berahino, who scored both goals in Saturday’s 2-2 FA Cup fourth round draw with Peterborough, has fallen out of favour at the Hawthorns in recent months amid persistent speculation over his future. “Football wise, everybody would want to keep Saido here”.
Peace felt West Brom would struggle to replace him before the transfer window closed and that the player’s value will still hold when the summer comes around. There have been footballers with egos and bad attitudes throughout history, but if they can score goals better than anyone else in the team they have to play.
They also completed a loan move for Roma striker Seydou Doumbia earlier on Monday.
That means Philipp Wollschied and Marc Muniesa, who has only recently returned from injury himself, are the only fit, experienced and recognised centre halves available for tomorrow’s game at Manchester United and most probably Saturday’s home game with Everton.
The Toon chief splashed out nearly £30m on four players last month.
Berahino put West Brom back in the lead with another fine strike on 84 minutes but substitute Jon Taylor hit back with a volley a minute later to set up a replay.
“It was a new experience (at Newcastle)”, said Thauvin.
‘We have kept very quiet about our business and gone about it quietly, but I think got very, very good recruitment inside, very, very good players.
“I think they’ve had a really good time in January”. That’s been massive for me and it’s given me a lot of confidence.
