Next Google Nexus Could Be A Z5-Inspired Device!

With its own Nexus phones, Google would not only directly compete with the iPhone buy also devices like the HTC M9 and the Galaxy S6, which are made by its partners. The company’s CEO, Sundar Pichai, has hinted that the upcoming Nexus devices have only Google’s name on them.

Alphabet Inc.’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) subsidiary Google wants to attain greater control over the manufacturing of its Nexus smartphones, reports The Information.

The idea here is to make the Nexus line of phones more in line with Apple’s iPhone – that is, premium handsets with hardware that’s designed specifically to be optimized for the software. Google’s plans are likely to have a negative impact on smaller OEMs, that have sought a boost in brand image, such as Nexus 6P’s development through Huawei, as compared to more recognized ones. The company, according to a report by The Information, is looking to follow a model similar to the one followed by Apple for its iPhone. There are already rumours that HTC – struggling financially – is in talks with Google about making future Nexus hardware. It is important to note that Google’s recent Pixel C tablet is developed completely in-house. The Nexus 6P is indeed a solid phone, with camera, design and the media consumption experience being the areas in which it shines the most. It’s possible that Android wants more control over how Android is used and how fast devices get updated. If up until now Nexus devices have been developed in partnership by the search giant and Android device makers, the report says that will change going forward. It’s suggested that HTC is still working hard to be the manufacturer that gets to build this year’s Nexus smartphone, so if that’s the case, we might not get to see this “Apple-like control” this year. The branding isn’t just about the operating system, it’s also about which team inside of Google the product comes from. They attempted it last year with the Nexus 6 and the phone was largely thought to be their worst selling Nexus in years.
