Donald Trump accidentally put money in Communion plate at Iowa church
U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump made another gaffe showing his apparent unfamiliarity with certain Christian practices when he and his wife attended church services at the non-denominational First Christian Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa, on Sunday.
When the communion plates were passed at the nondenominational First Christian Orchard Campus, Melania Trump and two campaign staffers both participated in communion.
But according to a report from the Associated Press, Donald Trump doesn’t know his ass from his elbow once he gets inside a church.
When it came time to receive Communion, Trump had a moment of confusion during which he tried to place some money on one of the silver trays being passed around.
Last summer, Trump spoke about partaking in Holy Communion. “I think we will win states that are not in the Republican view”, the real estate mogul said.
The candidate also stated, “I really appreciate the support given to me by the evangelicals”.
“When I drink my little wine – which is about the only wine I drink – and have my little cracker, I guess that is a form of asking for forgiveness, and I do that as often as possible because I feel cleansed”, he said.
“In fact, it’s her writing, right here”. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio – have more consistent records of church-going than Trump, who still leads among Republican evangelical voters. “I truly love the people of Iowa”, a smiley Trump said during his speech.
A day before the blunder, Trump released a video in which he displayed his mother’s Bible, saying it was “very special to me”.
On Saturday, Mr Trump appeared with the president of the university, Jerry Falwell JR, whose late father was an influential preacher and Christian activist, at a campaign rally in Davenport.
