Melissa McCarthy ‘wasn’t asked’ back to Gilmore Girls
McCarthy wrote as a response to a Twitter fan who asked if she can come back to the show.
Quirky chef Sookie has not been asked to return to the Stars Hollow kitchen in the anticipated revival of Gilmore Girls.
Palladino did leave the door open for McCarthy though, stating that, if the actress could find some free time, she would be more than happy to write her in for a scene or a cameo appearance.
According to Entertainment Weekly, McCarthy posted an update on her official Twitter account shortly after 9 p.m., refuting director Amy Sherman-Palladino’s recent claims that a scheduling conflict was at fault for the character of Sookie not returning to Stars Hollow, despite the cast and crew’s wishes that she could attend.
When Netflix announced that it was bringing back Gilmore Girls and that many of your favorite cast members would be back we all simultaneously celebrated with tears of joy and a cup of coffee.
“She’s really f*cking busy”, Sherman-Palladino said to TVLine.
Do you think Melissa McCarthy was truly not invited to participate in the upcoming Gilmore Girls reboot, or is there more to this story? Melissa was one of us. And if its a last-minute thing, I would write her in and we would figure it out. She also had her own bits of drama that Lorelai could help her through. Some fans say that her current A-list status is the reason why she is not returning to Gilmore Girls. She provided Lorelai with a constant shoulder to lean on, blow off steam with and enjoy their oddball small town life with. Melissa McCarthy has, of course, had a career that many actors would kill for since her insanely amusing role in Bridesmaids garnered her an Oscar nomination in 2012. It was an even greater moment when the relationship dynamic between her and her love, Jackson, was established. “Nothing, absolutely nothing!” every fan has cried since the news broke.
Vulture has reached out to McCarthy and Netflix for further comment. Melissa McCarthy played Sookie St. James on the family dramedy for the series entire run, from 2000 through 2007.
