Wildfire in Sierra Nevada foothills burns 2 square miles
Mandatory evacuations were called for 150 homes in the areas of Red Dog, Chalk Bluff and You Bet in Nevada County, and the community of Cascade. “The good news of the week is that there have been no injuries to citizens and the structure loss was very minimal, all of the residences are still standing”, Winters Fire Chief Aaron McAlister said. Firefighters were hopeful the highway would reopen later Friday.
Businesses that were close to these wildfires say that they haven’t been affected with many customers still buying wine and renting boats and cabins near Lake Berryessa. “I also think that because so many people are talking about the drought and fire danger, we have fire-prevention advocates in the area talking about fire danger”, he said.
The fire was at 200 acres at 3:50 p.m. YubaNet.com reports the fire is burning near power lines and has cut the power to Nevada City.
The fire has quickly grown to 450 acres according to Cal Fire.
A camera placed on Midas Peak north of Battle Mountain spotted a fire more than 100 miles away in Oregon.
Quail Canyon and Golden Bear Communities under mandatory evacuations. Overnight, the flames spread into treacherous terrain. And the Napa Fire spreading in Napa County and Solano County, off of Hwy 128 near Greaves Rd Lake Berryessa, is still prompting evacuation orders this morning.

Containment is reported at 5 percent. Firefighters expect to reach full containment by Tuesday.
Residents of about 50 homes who evacuated when the fire broke out Wednesday had been allowed to return.

Firefighters are continuing to work on containing a separate fire that touched off on Wednesday east of Sacramento, California. Fletcher said he expects teams to continue fighting through Sunday.
The latest wildfire showed locals just how bad the drought has become, as it is believed the blaze was allegedly started by a vehicle collision, authorities initially said via the Los Angeles Times.
