This Guy Built His Own Smart Bathroom Mirror
The result is something that looks truly unbelievable. We would all like that.
So what else can we expect from Max’s smart mirror?
To be clear, the concept of a smart mirror isn’t new, and Braun himself links back to plenty of inspiration around the Web. Still, it’s one of the best looking ones we’ve seen yet, and I wouldn’t mind having one myself.
You’re probably sick of hearing about the “Internet of Things”. Making one isn’t really that hard, if you have the time and patience.
As for the construction, a two-way mirror was used, display panel, controller board, plus a bunch of random components to fuse it all together. Once it was finished, which took a while, the smart mirror was ready and using Google Now to show information. Using supplies you can find easily online or in stores, Braun turned his boring bathroom mirror into a smart one capable of delivering the news and weather.
The user interface (UI) for the smart mirror appears to have a minimalistic design with colors that change according to the weather. He has experimented running it on Chromecast, Nexus Player and the Fire TV Stick.
Braun uses a combination of Android and weather forecast APIs, along with an Associated Press RSS feed to create this informative pane of glass.
Pretty cool, don’t you think? One of those things is definitely Google Now, the insanely useful voice-enabled personal assistant that gives you all kinds of useful information when you need it. However, my love for Google Now can’t come close to the love shown by Googler Max Braun, who has successfully installed it on his bathroom mirror.
