Rick Santorum To Suspend Presidential Campaign
If Santorum couldn’t make it there, he couldn’t make it anywhere, to borrow some lyrics from “New York, New York”.
Another announcement is to be made, with Santorum informing which of his fellow Republican candidates he will be endorsing.
Rick Santorum will drop out of the presidential race Wednesday night, reports say. Rand Paul dropped out Wednesday afternoon. Santorum, who previously won the Iowa Caucuses in 2012, received just 1 percent of support in the 2016 early primary event.
Mike Huckabee suspended his campaign Monday with a post on his Twitter feed.
Throughout the 2016 race, Rick Santorum was among the handful of candidates whose bid for the presidency had many scratching their head and wondering, “why bother?” He essentially finished in last place, ahead of only Jim Gilmore, who didn’t campaign in the state. “I’ll stand a little bit over here so I’m not photographed with the Trump sign”, Santorum said awkwardly, drawing jeers from the crowd. But, when CNN Florida Sen. Low polling numbers forced him into the undercard debates.
But Huckabee, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) and others occupied the political space that Santorum hoped to again call his own, drawing fervent backing from Christian activists, foreign-policy hawks and populist conservatives. Not who the money give people to.
