Chelsea leave door open for Terry at Stamford Bridge
“It’s going to be my previous year and I want to go out at the top”, Terry said.
Interim manager Guus Hiddink has expressed surprise that John Terry went public at the weekend with the news Chelsea would not be renewing his contract and believes the defender could yet remain at Stamford Bridge.
The 35-year old has been at the club for 18 years, winning four Premier League titles, five FA Cups and the Champions League in that time.
Wenger said he would not follow-up the signing of Petr Cech by going after Terry, which is aligned with Terry’s assertion that he would not be joining another English club when he leaves Stamford Bridge.
The club have indicated with a statement late on Sunday night that it is not a certainty that their captain will leave Chelsea in the summer.
Asked about his meeting with Hiddink, Cahill said: “He was very approachable and it was beneficial, very positive”.
Captain Terry claimed the club have told him he will not be given a new deal when his current agreement expires at the end of the season.
“The club has the utmost respect for John and everything he has helped us to achieve to date. The club still want to have the dialogue and to have an open door still”.
“I think it’s a mad decision from Chelsea, I don’t understand it”, former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino wrote in The Times.
He is the highest Premier League defender with the highest goals ever 40.
“I knew before the Arsenal game (which Chelsea won 1-0), so mentally I’ve kind of accepted it. We just have to move on and climb the league”.
“John’s statistics and the view I have on him is that he is very fit”, said the veteran Dutch boss. It will be elsewhere for sure.
Chelsea captain John Terry has not been offered a new contract and will leave the club at the end of the season.
Terry joined Chelsea at the age of 14 and spent a total of 21 years playing for the club. The most important thing now is to get us up the league. “He will [continue] to do this regardless of the situation he is in and be professional”.
“The lad Kurt Zouma has come into the team and been playing alongside him, learning the game and learning off of John”.
Mourinho was eventually sacked – and replaced by Hiddink – as Chelsea suffered their worst start to a Premier League season.
