Chelsea axes Falcao from Champions League squad
The Premier League champions have decided against picking on-loan striker Falcao, with injuries and a lack of form seeing the Colombian net just one league goal since his summer move from Monaco.
Falcao, who is now owned by Ligue 1 club Monaco, was linked with a transfer deadline day move with La Liga clubs Atletico Madrid and Valencia, but the move failed after the striker reportedly failed his medical.
January signings Alexandre Pato and Matt Miazga have been included in Chelsea’s revised Champions League squad – but there is no place for Radamel Falcao.
Pato joined on loan during January for the rest of the season from Corinthians, saying the switch was a “dream come true”.
Falcao, who has not played since October because of a thigh injury, will therefore miss the Champions League last-16 tie with Paris Saint-Germain.
Pato told the Chelsea website: “I feel very good physically”. I’m hoping to contribute a lot and have a great time here.
Matt Miazga has also been included in the squad, while youngsters Ola Aina, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Bradley Collins all make the B List and are eligible to play.
New Chelsea signing Alexandre Pato describes the club’s supporters as “special” after receiving a warm welcome from the fans on social media.
