Andy must find way to beat history boy Novak
Top-ranked Djokovic maintained his ideal streak in six Australian Open finals with a 6-1, 7-5, 7-6 (3) victory on Sunday night, equaling Roy Emerson’s record for Australian titles.
Not only has Djokovic become the first man in almost 50 years to win six Australian titles, he has also established himself as a class apart from his main rivals: Murray, Federer and Rafael Nadal. Federer did win the third set and tried to mount what would have been an impressive comeback, but Djokovic’s mental strength is such that he prevailed over Federer in four sets in the end.
He reached the final at the French Open, but lost to Stan Wawrinka. “I try to. But, you know, I do the best that I can”, Williams said.
“Each year when I go back I feel like I’m a step closer”, Djokovic said during a TV interview after the final.
It’s only a game A healthy dose of perspective was offered by Andy Murray, who shrugged off his latest Australian Open final defeat-his fifth-with nonchalance.
“There’s something I’ve found out in the previous years in my career is that you can’t separate yourself professionally and privately – you’re the same person”, Djokovic said.
Of course, it’s too early to make sound predictions about who will win or what will happen at the 2016 French Open, but speculating is such fun.
Elena Vesnina and Bruno Soares won the last four points of the match tiebreaker to capture the mixed doubles championship at the Australian Open with 6-4, 4-6, 10-5 win over Coco Vandeweghe and Hora Tecau. It was Soares’ second doubles title in 18 hours at Melbourne Park he and partner Jamie Murray beat Daniel Nestor and Radek Stepanek 2-6, 6-4, 7-5 in a match that ended after midnight Saturday.
“I try to still follow the same kind of lifestyle and routine, things that I ve been doing all these years that have been helping me to get to where I am”.
Murray succumbed to his fifth loss in five Australian Open finals, and fourth against the Serbian world number one, who claimed his 11th grand slam title to match the totals of Rod Laver and Bjorn Borg. On the women’s side, Serena Williams has done it before and her feat was called the “Serena Slam”. He now leads the pack with head-to-head wins over them all – Federer (23-22), Murray (22-9), Nadal (24-23).
“I do think I could have played a bit better, like I said”. Nadal lost in the first-round, raising more questions about whether his Grand Slam winning days have passed.
However, the No. 2 slots held by Angelique Kerber and Andy Murray are less secure. “I’m sure in the future you’re going to have many opportunities”.
“I believe that all the guys that are out there fighting each week to get to No. 1 are very hungry to get to No. 1”, he said.
“After that I m already thinking about how can I continue on playing well throughout the rest of the season each tournament”.
